Apple WWDC 2013: From iRadio to iO7, what to expect
Apple’s WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) begins today in San
Francisco. From iOS 7 to Apple’s rumoured iRadio service, here’s a look
at what to expect at the conference today. WWDC starts today and goes on
till 14 June.
iOS 7: The next edition of Apple’s mobile software for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPads is likely to be shown off today.
The biggest change that is expected is in terms of designs. 9to5mac, had reported in the past that Apple’s design chief Jonathan Ive seems to have gone for a complete design overhaul. The report states that, in software design meetings with Apple’s iOS designers, accompanied by Apple’s Human Interface vice president Greg Christie, Ive has shared his reasoning behind his distaste for the texture-heavy (skeuomorphic, a recording app will have an old fashioned microphone) interfaces heralded by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and former iOS chief Scott Forstall.
9to5Mac last week reported some of the changes which included: the yellow notepad-inspired Notes app and Leather-bound Calendar interfaces on the iPhone and iPad will no longer be present.
The report also adds that the iOS 7 could come with built-in functionality for automatically uploading to Flickr and Vimeo. iOS6 already allows users to post directly from Facebook and Twitter without opening the app.
iOS 7 design has black and white elements and is flat all over. As far as the new OS is concerned, John Gruber of DaringFireball.net, (previously Apple blogger), noted that work on the OS was running late and engineers had been pulled from OS X 10.9 team to pump up work. He also added that the team working on the next version of OS is ensuring complete secrecy.
Previously the Wall Street Journal, said that as far as iOS 7 is concerned, Ive is pushing a more “flat design” that is starker and simpler.
iRadio: Apple’s rumoured music streaming service which has been dubbed as iRadio by the tech industry is also likely to be launched at the conference. According to reports, Apple has already signed deals with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group for music licenses as it gets ready to launch the music streaming service which will rival Pandora, Google’s music streaming service.
According to a report on Reuters, Apple also plans to sell audio ads on iRadio.
