Micromax Canvas 4: Competition and price estimation
Micromax has announced its fourth flagship smartphone, the Canvas 4 yesterday in a picture and two short teaser videos. The phone will come for pre-order on the 28th of June. This phone will battle it out with a few premium and low cost smartphones in the Indian market that includes, Samsung flagship and Lava’s latest marvel.
Catch a glimpse of the Galaxy S4 from the sideways and them look at the Micromax Canvas 4, and you can easily understand the competitor of Canvas 4. Let us know if you can sport some major difference. Both the phones sport a metallic rim around the poly-carbonate back panel. The front screen of the Micromax is not known yet. The Samsung counterpart has got a full HD super amoled screen. The Canvas 3 (Canvas HD) which competed with the Galaxy S3 had an HD display on 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, like the Galaxy S3. We can expect Micromax to go a little higher on display resolution and bring a 1920 x1080 like the Galaxy S4.
The camera definitely competes with the Samsung Galaxy S4’s shooter. Both the phones have got the power of a 13 megapixel auto focus shooter with LED flash. Micromax may not be overlaying camera features with something extra, but stay sure you will get the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean camera features with Canvas 4. Micromax recently updated its Canvas D smartphone operating system to the next level of Jelly Bean. This makes us understand that Micromax will work on a Key Lime Pie upgrade of the phone when it is available.
At least 16 GB memory on dock, and at least 32 GB expandable is expected from Micromax. We don’t expect Micromax of offer its latest flagship with 2 GB user memory like the Canvas HD.
Few techies expect octa-core processor on the phone like the Galaxy S4. The way the number 4 cuts through the circle in the teaser of Canvas 4, we expect Canvas 4 is quad-core not octa-core. An enhancement in procesor speed is also expected.
Price wise, the Indian company has been promising a low cost phone in the Canvas serieswhich can be owned without monthly installments (Remember the Micromax Can Own Now campaign saying You CAN OWN NOW Micromax Canvas Smartphones without the hassles of schemes, E.M.I and interest!) So while the Samsung Galaxy S4 sells above Rs 36000, The Canvas 4 is expected to be priced below Rs 15000.
This is also because Lava has launched its quad-core gesture recogniton based IRIS 504Q in competition with the Galaxy S4. Lava will place this phone in a low range bracket of less than Rs 13499. The awesome feature will make this phone a hot-selling product, at a lower price point. The last Canvas was priced at Rs 13999, and sold like hot cake in the market. The Canvas 2 also sold very good at a price of Rs 10000. This time also, Micromax needs to make the Canvas 4 affordable to be able to crack the smartphone market with a bang and to emerge as a leader.
