Leak shows new variant of Samsung Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 800 processor
Samsung’s flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, is
currently available in two variants – one with a Snapdragon 600
processor and another with an Exynos 5 Octa processor, which is
available internationally. A third variant was launched in South Korea
recently with a Snapdragon 800 chipset as well as LTE-Advanced
connectivity, according to GSMarena. The variant, however, is only available in that market.
A fresh leak, though, suggests that another version of the S4 with a Snapdragon 800 processor – called the Galaxy S4 LTE-A – may be seen in the International market, according to a Japanese website.
The leak, in the form of AnTuTu benchmark score, suggests that the LTE-A Galaxy S4 may be getting an international release with the model number I9506. The Galaxy S4, which comes with the Snapdragon 600 processor, is labelled I9505.
The leaked benchmark shows that the phone’s quad-core processor is clocked at 2.3GHz. From what can be seen, the smartphone will be coming to the market running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, similar to what other versions of Samsung’s flagship come with.
Reports have stated that the device managed to score 31,123 points in the benchmark, which is almost the same score as what has been seen in other tested Snapdragon 800 smartphones so far. This does show a marked improvement in performance when compared to the other S4 variants out there, namely the Galaxy I9500 (the Exynos 5 Octa processor-running S4) and the I9505 versions.
The benchmark score of the LTE-A Galaxy S4 actually seem to rate better than the version which is being sold in South Korea, despite having the same processor. Adding to that, the Adreno 330 GPU chipset easily outperforms the Adreno 320 GPU seen in the Snapdragon 600.
There has been no official statement or announcement from Samsung, though. Thus, it is still not certain if the smartphone will be available for all markets. Till the time the company decides to talk about this variant, Samsung enthusiasts are advised to wait and not get their hopes too high.
