Pacific Rim gets game on iOS and Android

With the recent launch of another summer blockbuster movie—Pacific Rim—comes another licensed movie tie-in game. Reliance Games has released a game based on the movie for iOS and Android devices. The game follows the plot of the movie as players take on the role of the mecha, referred to in the movie as Jaegers, as they fight off giant alien monsters, dubbed Kaiju.

The game has a very Infinity Blade-styled feel to it, with fights consisting of dodging, blocking and swiping to attacks. The Infinity Blade influence can be seen in any screenshots that show the fights. Other than the fights, however, the game seems to be largely menu-driven and seems to lack any of the exploration aspects of Infinity Blade 2.

Pacific Rim has a bunch of game modes to play: Story Mode and Survival Mode. Story mode, as the name might imply, follows the plot of the movie as you fight different Kaiju with Jaegers. Survival mode is a gauntlet mode of sorts where players have to keep fighting and surviving against and endless hordes of Kaiju. As players progress through the game, new combos, and even Jaegers, are unlocked. Players can then customise their Jaeger to suit their gameplay style with new weapons and technology. The game features five different Jaegers based on the movie. Notably, the game also includes new events and Jaegers that were not mentioned in the movie.

Pacific Rim: The Game costs approximately Rs 280 on both Android and iOS. You can grab the game from Google Play or the iTunes App Store. Other titles released by Reliance Games include movie tie-ins such as the Android and iOS games based on the movies After Earth and Total Recall.
