Samsung to Launch Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom: Camera-Special Phone?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

After launching the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a brilliant 13 MP camera, Samsung is now looking at launching a camera-focused phone under the Samsung Galaxy S4 brand.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, the camera-special phone will be is expected to come with a 16 MP camera and amazing features for photography. According to reports leaked by SamMobile, Samsung will announce the phone as early as this month and the phone is expected to go on sale latest by July.

If the news is true, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will be Samsung’s first phone with a 16 MP camera. Samsung launched the Galaxy Camera with the same resolution last year and was met with lukewarm success.

Smartphones have eaten away a considerable chunk of the camera market as most phones today come with advanced cameras. The digi-cam industry is slowly dying out as smartphone makers pack more features and pixels into their phone cameras, diminishing the need to buy the actual gadget. Samsung’s Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom might be one of the initial nails in the digital camera coffin.

On the specifications front, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will come with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED or SAMOLED display. There’s still no word on the resolution though we’re guessing the resolution will be high as it is a camera intensive phone. Needless to say, the phone will run on Android platform. Whether Samsung equips the phone with jelly Bean 4.2 out of the box or paves the way for the next Android variant is up to Samsung.

There’s still no clarity on the processor or the RAM of the phone. However, Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will definitely be a dual-core or a quad-core phone. The phone’s internal memory is said to be 8 GB (expandable up to 64 GB).

According to SamMobile, the phone is codenamed SM-C1010.

Considering the phone is a camera-focused phone, we wonder if Samsung plans to pit the phone against Nokia’s upcoming Lumia 928 as the Nokia Lumia 928 is also a camera-focused phone. Also, we would love to know about the flash and the phone lens. Will Samsung finally move to a Xenon flash for their camera-special Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom or retain the LED flash?

If Samsung wants more than a slice of the camera-smartphone market, the phone-maker will have to focus on hardware along with software features. While things like dual-shot sure are fun, they will not add much value to the device without a proper flash and good camera.

We just hope Samsung has done their homework when it comes to camera-special phones and will take some tips from Nokia (without offending them, of course) in the matter! Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

This is a nice phone for photographers but I don't think it would suit anyone else. No one would like to use a phone that looks like a camera in everyday life.
