Instagram will come to BlackBerry and Windows Phone before Google Glass: CEO

It seems like the popular photo-sharing app Instagram is looking at first extending its services to BlackBerry and Windows Phone operating systems before looking at Google Glass. A report by Fast Company, quotes Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom as saying, "We're not yet on Blackberry or Windows Phone, so I think those will come before Google Glass."

A lot can be read into this decision. While many companies are lining up for Google’s wearable device, with Twitter ,Tumblr and even Facebook itself, which bought Tumblr last year, developing apps for the gadget, it may be that other companies like Instagram are not as keen to get onto the new device.

If the timeline is looked at, it took Instagram, which was originally an iOS-only service, around 18 months to launch on Android. While on iOS, the company registered 25 million users, and before launching on Android, was one of the most awaited app launches on that OS. The company, which now has 130 million monthly users, has now also including Vine-like short videos to its list of features. However, the date of expansion into other operating systems has never been discussed, until now.

Cutting down any excitement that may rise from this statement, the Instagram head honcho said: "I'm not saying those will come anytime soon. I’m just saying that in order of priority, the way we evaluate where to expand to is really simply where our users are, and where is the growth. It took us a very long time to get to Android."

Systrom’s statement indicates that, while Facebook has bought over the app, the core philosophy of the company, which has always been to innovate at a steady pace, has not changed. And Google’s futuristic eyewear, which may be ideal for the photo-sharing service, may not be enough to change that.
