Nokia Asha 501 Lands on Indian Shores

Nokia introduced their Asha series flagship device, the cute but powerful Nokia Asha 501 in May. After a couple of month’s wait, looks like Nokia Asha 501 is ready to land on Indian shores.

The phone, yet to be officially unveiled by Nokia, is already up for pre-order on Nokia’s e-commerce site. The phone comes with Nokia’s brand new Asha platform. With looks and features almost similar to Nokia’s Lumia series, Nokia Asha 501 is a phone which has managed to impress most Nokia buyers.

The most important move Nokia has made with the launch of the Asha 501 is the new body design and format. Unlike traditional devices, the Nokia Asha 501, a tiny, squarish device with a plasticky back comes with a duo-body design meaning the phone has just 2 parts. The duo-body design is said to make it stronger and more durable.

Nokia Asha 501 comes with a basic 3-inch screen with a 320 x 240 pixel QVGA resolution. The screen is a capacitive dual-touch screen display.  and comes with two homescreens: one is a ‘Fastlane’ which is the default homescreen and the other is the traditional screen which lists all apps. ‘Fastlane’, according to Nokia is the screen which shows you the ‘present’, ‘past’ and ‘future’. Fancy terms but what it means is that the new ‘Fastlane’ is more like a notification panel where you can see all the present happenings via widgets, past notifications on scrolling down and as for the ‘future’? The Nokia Asha is synced with Facebook letting upcoming events, birthdays and reminders as part of the ‘future’. The Fastlane brings multi-tasking to Nokia Asha 501, perhaps a first for a transition device with basic specifications. The phone does not feature a special lock button as it wakes up with a double tap on the home-screen.

Apart from the impressive display, Nokia Asha 501 comes with a 3.2 MP rear end camera without flash. On the memory front, Nokia Asha 501 comes with a 4GB internal memory card which can be expanded up to 32 GB.

On the connectivity front, Nokia Asha 501 is mainly a 2G phone targeted at developing nations. The phone supports WiFi for faster browsing.
