Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet: Specs, features, release date rumors

Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony has become hyper active these days. It is working overtime to catch up with the top smartphone manufacturer Korean based Samsung and launching handsets in almost every category. Till mid-2012, the Japanese smartphone manufacturer was just a fringe player as far as its smartphone market was concerned. But now, in mid-2013, the company has become a serious player in the market and is throwing challenges after challenges at not just Sammy, but other tops smartphone manufacturers including LH, HTC and others with its impeccably crafted smartphones. Its handsets are so good in quality and come with so great features, that people instantly fall in love with them and to be true, they don’t look cheap like some top smartphone handsets from leading handset manufacturers.
So this is no surprise that the Japanese tech giant has now come out with a huge phablet that will directly compete with Samsung’s next generation phablet Galaxy Note 2.

To be true, Sony seems ecstatic about the chances of its huge 6.4-inch phablet that it has given it a rather very lengthy name Xperia Z Ultra. The Japanese company has released a press invite notice showing off the side view of a device that looks like a phablet with a slim profile. The press event is slated for Thursday 4 July at 09.30 in France and the firm has invited media for the event where “Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you.” The ‘big’ indicates that the device may be Sony’s much-rumored phablet. Further, the press invite letter also features handwritten-like text, “Do not forget to mark your calendars!” As per XperiaBlog, it is looking as written by a stylus that gives more credence for the device to be a phablet. The rumors suggest that the upcoming Sony phablet is to be called as Xperia Z Ultra, and is to carry a huge 6.4-inch display with a lot of exciting features and capabilities.
With the new phablet Sony seems to have beaten all its competitors. If the rumor is true, the Xperia Z Ultra will be the largest phablet out in stores. Of now, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 has this title, before taking it over from Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1. With such a bigger display, the Ultra may also act as a superb midranger between a smartphone and a midsize tablet. Well, it will combine the portability of a phone, and power and usability of a tablet PC.
And the best of all, the handset will not be a mid-range handset but will come with the best specifications. Unlike the Mega 6.3, the Xperia Z Ultra is to feature a FullHD display. It will reportedly get power form a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable memory. The rear camera will have an 8MP sensor, and moderate front camera will also be there. It will be running on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean at launch. Amazingly, like the Xperia Z, it is also going to be water and dust resistant. Sony fans are already relishing the thought of owning this really huge super smartphone.
